Where does KOI get inspiration for its design?

KOI gets inspiration for its design from Indonesian culture and heritage combined with a modern and contemporary edge.

Please describe the KOI style

The KOI style is modern yet classical and sometimes industrial

KOI mixes modern with classical and industrial style, pulling this combination off with aplomb

Where does KOI source its sustainable materials?

KOI sources its sustainable materials from used furniture and remains of house frames and old fishing boats.

When you join with KOI, you’re buying more than a unique piece of furniture. You’re also taking better care of the environment through the products you choose while adding authenticity & modernity to your interior.

KOI’s foundation rests on shaping recycled teak wood sourced from old Javanese homes into a fresh new vision. In the past, this teak wood timber would have been left to decay. But at KOI, we’ve seen the potential of this beautifully seasoned wood, with a strong character and history. We work with suppliers and skilled craft people that make it rebirth in individually created pieces of furniture that will last for years. Only skilled hands using the ancient knowledge of traditional techniques and the simplest of tools are involved in the manufacturing process of our furniture.

Our uniqueness comes from the association between the authenticity of the reclaimed raw material and the incomparable urban designs that beautifully fit in all kinds of interiors, creating a modern and unique home decoration style.

Please tell us about the move towards using sustainable materials in Indonesia

Plantation teak and recycled teak are sustainable materials in Indonesia. Teaks are planted and teakwood can agelessly be recycled for many times.

What advice can you give those who are keen to use local materials in their home decorating?

Indonesia is rich with high value materials for furniture and they can mostly be recycled.

Do you feel that the average consumer's attitude towards the use of local, sustainable materials has changed during your time in this area?

Yes, more and more people including Indonesians are aware of using local and sustainable materials. This improves the economy of Indonesia and creates a better education due to awareness of sustainable approach to consumerism.
