Celebrating Easter in Jakarta

It's hard to believe that it is now more than two years since we first arrived in Jakarta but I clearly remember (like it was yesterday), the wave of panic that swept over me when I suddenly realised that Easter was a matter of weeks away and I had nothing organised. Worse still, I had no idea where to source anything Easter- related in Jakarta.

With limited time, I managed to rustle up a few eggs from a nearby supermarket and then I remembered that Nana was coming for her first visit to Jakarta just prior to Easter. Surely Nana could come to my rescue?

Visiting a tropical country, Nana wouldn't need to pack much, allowing more space for important things (like Easter eggs). Luckily she was agreeable with my plan and generously filled her case with an array of goodies (think Humpty Dumpty eggs, Elegant Rabbits, crates of Easter eggs.. you get the gist of it!). Needless to say, our memories of Easter 2014 are of chocolate-tinged smiles all thanks to Nana.

To help you prepare for your Easter, (especially if you don't have a family member visiting in the next few weeks), we have updated and extended our list of Easter essentials that was compiled in 2015. We've divided today's story into two main categories: Easter Treats and Easter Decorating.

For those of you who celebrate, we wish you and your family a happy and safe Easter 2016.

And did you know that Jakarta has its own Chocolate School? Why not learn about the process of chocolate making from a master chocolatier and then create your own masterpieces using premium Indonesian chocolate.  A visit to The Jakarta Chocolate School is highly recommended.

Happy Easter All.
